Sweating Saris 2013-2018

Sweating Saris is a multimedia performance based on my book Sweating Saris: Indian Dance As Transnational Labour. I created solo, duets and trios of performances based on the book because I wanted to share the main theoretical ideas in the book in a simpler manner. The written text alone was not enough to offer multiple perspectives on the hybrid histories of Indian dance and Euro American contemporary dance. The work involved humour, dialogue, dance, and music.

The work was performed in The Hague, London, Chennai, Melbourne and a West Coast USA Tour including: Highways Contemporary Performance Space, Los Angeles, Sangam Arts, San Jose, Stanford University, Palo Alto, San Diego State University, Ethnic Theatre, University of Washington, Seattle.
